The United States and Iran traded a new round of military strikes, marking a sharp escalation in regional tensions and raising fresh concerns over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. Central Command said it carried out strikes on military targets in southern Iran, describing the operation as an act of self-defense. Explosions were reported in the cities of Sirik and Minab.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps responded with drone and missile attacks targeting U.S. military facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, claiming to have struck multiple strategic sites, including Patriot radar systems, the headquarters of the U.S. Fifth Fleet, and Jordan's Muwaffaq Salti Air Base. Some of Iran's claims have not been independently verified.
Meanwhile, Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya military headquarters announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to all vessels, warning that ships attempting to transit the waterway could be targeted. The move threatens one of the world's most important energy shipping routes and has already pushed oil prices higher.
