Poland Prepares to Host Permanent US Military Base on Its Territory: Prime Minister
17:58 16.06.2026 (Updated: 18:28 16.06.2026) Poland is preparing to host a permanent US military base on its territory, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, opening a cabinet meeting.
Currently, about 10,000 American soldiers are stationed in Poland. Their presence is based on the principle of rotation.
"We cannot expect the fulfillment of the promises made by President Trump about American soldiers, but we must prepare for this so that American soldiers have a place to stay. The best guarantee is the creation of a permanent base," Tusk said.
The Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday will consider a special draft resolution proposed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh, he noted.
"Deputy Prime Minister Kosinyak-Kamysh proposed a draft resolution of the Council of Ministers on the issue of actions to create a permanent base for the US forces. We are talking about creating logistical, financial, organizational, and housing conditions," Tusk said.
He noted that in this way Poland wants to prevent possible competition from other countries for the deployment of an American military base on its territory.
"If we are seriously thinking about a permanent base, then we should start thinking about it in advance. Thanks to this, no one will be able to say: Poland is not ready, let's consider another country," the prime minister said.
