Respondents were asked whether they supported Moldova's accession to NATO. Support for joining the alliance was expressed by 25% of respondents (22% in December 2025). Opposition to NATO membership was voiced by 58% of respondents (58% in December). Some 17% were undecided (20% previously).Under its constitution, Moldova is a neutral country, but since 1994 it has cooperated with NATO under an Individual Partnership Action Plan. Since Moldovan President Maia Sandu came to power, military exercises involving troops from the US, UK, Germany and Romania have been frequently held in the country.Additionally, more than half of Moldovans oppose the republic's accession to Romania, the poll showed.If a referendum on Moldova's accession to Romania were held next Sunday, 34% of Moldovan residents would support such a union (up from 29% in December 2025). Meanwhile, 55% of respondents believe the country should remain independent (up from 54% in December). Some 11% were undecided (17% previously).The survey was conducted from June 1 to 14, with 1,116 people from 86 localities taking part. The margin of error is 3%.Moldova gained independence in 1991 following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Under the country's current constitution, sovereignty and independence are fundamental principles. Although the issue of unification with Romania has repeatedly surfaced in political discourse, no referendum on the matter has ever been held.
