Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that Russia is ready to develop long-term cooperation with Malaysia in the supply of oil and energy resources.
"I touched upon the issues of expanding economic cooperation, including appreciation for the willingness of Russia to ensure long-term cooperation in energy and oil supplies," Ibrahim said on X.
The sides exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation in the fields of new technologies, cybersecurity, digital economy, artificial intelligence, modern agriculture and pharmaceuticals, the prime minister said.
"Had a productive meeting with President Vladimir Putin to discuss a wide range of bilateral cooperation, including opportunities to further strengthen collaboration in the energy sector, a strategic area of mutual interest to Malaysia and the Russian Federation," Ibrahim said.
In addition, issues of simplifying the movement of citizens, including visa procedures, as well as mechanisms for expanding bilateral trade and investment using national currencies - the Russian ruble and the Malaysian ringgit - were discussed, the prime minister said.
Ibrahim said that he highly appreciated the consistent position of Putin on issues related to the situation in Iran and the Gaza Strip.
