UK Fails to Condemn Ukrainian Strikes on Zaporozhye NPP: Russian Foreign Ministry
The UK authorities have not condemned the targeted attacks by the Ukrainian armed forces on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) and the city of Energodar, where the plant's employees and their families live, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Sputnik on Wednesday.
"There have been no words of condemnation or concern in this regard [about the attacks] from London," Zakharova said.
Reports from the office of outgoing UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer about plans to supply uranium to Ukraine emerged against the backdrop of continuing Ukrainian attacks, Zakharova added.
In addition, bureaucrats at the United Nations avoid openly condemning the monstrous crimes of the Kiev regime, Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN in Geneva Gennady Gatilov said.
"The UN bureaucracy – and [High Commissioner for Human Rights] Volker Turk is no exception – all of them avoid openly condemning the crimes of the bloody Kiev regime, despite the horror of the acts it commits," Gatilov said.
A clear example of this is the almost complete silence of top UN officials regarding the recent terrorist attack by the Ukrainian forces on a college in the city of Starobelsk.
Last week, Starmer's office said that uranium enrichment company Urenco, with government backing, would supply enriched uranium to Ukraine's Energoatom to support the operation of the country's nuclear power plants for two years. The deal is valued at $280 million.
On August 23, 2023, the UK had already concluded a $245 million nuclear fuel purchase deal with Ukraine, in which UK uranium enrichment company Urenco participated. According to Energoatom, three nuclear material supply contracts have been concluded with Urenco companies since 2010.
