The European Union has joined the US-led Pax Silica initiative on critical minerals, European Commission spokesman Thomas Regnier said on Thursday.
"I can confirm that we have a senior Commissioner from this institution [the EU Commission] that traveled to the US indeed on Tuesday to sign the declaration to join the Pax Silica, and will be at the summit today also for the launch of Pax Silica," Regnier told a briefing.
European Commission chief spokesperson Paula Pinho confirmed this, adding that "we are part of that, and we are building on a partnership on this topic."
Pax Silica is a US-led coalition aimed at ensuring economic security in the age of artificial intelligence. The initiative treats computing power, silicon, minerals and energy as the member states' shared strategic assets. It includes Australia, Greece, Israel, Japan, Qatar, South Korea, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
