Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)’s Aerospace Force said on Thursday that it struck four US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain in the "first phase" of its response against strikes carried out by US CENTCOM forces against nearly 200 Iranian targets in two days.
India is deeply concerned over the recent attacks and escalation of tensions in West Asia, which have followed fresh targeting of commercial shipping transiting international waterways in the region, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement on Wednesday evening.
The MEA said that the developments risk undermining regional peace, security and stability.
"India calls upon all parties to exercise restraint, de-escalate tensions, and ensure protection of civilians as well as the uninterrupted flow of energy supplies and commerce," New Delhi said.
Further, the Indian government has urged the parties to "return to dialogue and diplomacy to achieve a peaceful and lasting solution to the conflict".
The latest round of hostilities take place in the wake of alleged Iranian attacks against three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, which the CENTCOM has described as a "dangerous violation" of the ceasefire and undermining the freedom of navigation.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that US attacks against several monitoring and surveillance centres along the southern coast were a "blatant breach of the ceasefire understanding", or the Iran-US MoU signed on 17 June. The CENTCOM forces carried out additional strikes on Iran for the second straight day on Wednesday, following US President Donald Trump telling the NATO Summit in Ankara that the ceasefire may be "over".
