Retribution Is a Must: Iran’s Leader Vows Revenge as Millions Honour His Father
21:08 11.07.2026 (Updated: 22:09 11.07.2026) Tens of millions of people took part in the funeral ceremonies for former Iranian leader Ali Khamenei in Iran and Iraq, and his death must be avenged, his son and successor as supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, said on Saturday.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the magnificent and historic participation of tens of millions of people in various cities of Iran and Iraq, especially in Tehran, Qom, Najaf, Karbala and Mashhad," Mojtaba Khamenei said in a written message issued on the occasion of the funeral.
Iran’s leader also vowed to avenge the deaths of both Ali Khamenei and the other victims of the US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
"We swear to take revenge on the criminal murderers for your pure spilled blood and the blood of all the martyrs of these two wars [the June 2025 conflict and the 2026 military hostilities]… Retribution is the demand of our people, and it will certainly be carried out," Khamenei said.
