The Government of India on Wednesday approved $13.3 billion in additional investment for the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) as part of its bid to make the country an electronics manufacturing global hub.
"Cabinet has approved ISM 2.0 with a total outlay of $13.3 billion," Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said after a meeting of the federal cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
Vaishnaw added that design, development and
production of semiconductors will be key focus areas of the indigenous programme.
The minister said that the programme will focus on design, development and production of indigenous chips.
"We will be self-reliant in the production of indigenous chips by the end of this programme," he asserted.
