Indian private space company Skyroot Aerospace successfully launched the Asian nation's first privately made orbital-class rocket, Vikram-1, on Saturday.
"Vikram-1 Test Flight-1 has reached orbit. India's first privately developed orbital rocket has completed its final burn and injected its payloads into a ~450 km orbit [280 miles]," the company said in a post on X.
India has become the third country in the world with private orbital launch capability, the company added.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the launch as "defining moment in India’s space journey".
"This is a defining moment in India’s space journey. The growing participation of our private sector is opening new frontiers and accelerating innovation," PM Modi said.
