Thailand Pushes to Speed Up Free Trade Deal With EAEU: Foreign Minister
Thailand is pushing for accelerated work on concluding a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said on Friday.
"Thailand supports the idea of concluding a free trade agreement [with the EAEU] and believes that it is necessary to move from words to action," Phuangketkeow said at the plenary session of the ninth joint Russian-Thai Commission on Bilateral Cooperation.
The agreement would promote the development of
trade relations between Thailand, the EAEU, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries and Russia, the minister noted.
"Our country expresses optimism and believes it is possible to strengthen our [with Russia] relations," Phuangketkeow added.
The minister noted that the recent meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in the Russian city of Kazan on the sidelines of the Russia-ASEAN summit had contributed to the development of bilateral contacts.
