Small satellites require propulsion systems to stay in their assigned orbits, avoid premature re-entry and maneuver between different orbits, making reliable and environmentally friendly fuel technology a key area of development, project leader Dmitry Zuev told Sputnik.Mass-dimensional model of the satellite is already ready for docking tests with the Keldysh team, and the propulsion unit has been installed in the satellite body for initial checks. The system will next undergo vibration and vacuum testing to confirm it can withstand space-like conditions, according to Zuev.Following these tests, the satellite will be fully assembled, the engine installed, and the spacecraft prepared for launch. "Once in orbit, the teams will jointly run the propulsion experiments," Zuev said. The project also involves students and young scientists directly in the development process, with data gathered from the mission expected to feed into future space-technology training programs.

Russia Builds Satellite to Test Eco-Friendly Rocket Fuel in Orbit
Russia is developing a nanosatellite, ReshUCube-4, designed to test advanced green propellant technology in space. The project is a joint effort between Reshetnev Siberian State University of Science and Technology and the Keldysh Research Center, with launch planned for late 2027.
Small satellites require propulsion systems to stay in their assigned orbits, avoid premature re-entry and maneuver between different orbits, making reliable and environmentally friendly fuel technology a key area of development, project leader Dmitry Zuev told Sputnik.
Mass-dimensional model of the satellite is already ready for docking tests with the Keldysh team, and the propulsion unit has been installed in the satellite body for initial checks. The system will next undergo vibration and vacuum testing to confirm it can withstand space-like conditions, according to Zuev.
Following these tests, the satellite will be fully assembled, the engine installed, and the spacecraft prepared for launch. "Once in orbit, the teams will jointly run the propulsion experiments," Zuev said.
The project also involves students and young scientists directly in the development process, with data gathered from the mission expected to feed into future space-technology training programs.
