Iran purchased new weapons during the pause in hostilities with the United States, Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said on Wednesday.
"We have also taken steps to prepare and purchase new equipment, and today this equipment has been delivered to the army units," Akraminia told the Mehr news agency.
At the same time, he did not specify what specific weapons Tehran purchased or from whom.
Iran used the time to restore weapons systems damaged during the conflict with the United States, he said.
Meanwhile, IRGC representative Hossein Mohebi reportedly said that the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened under any circumstances until the US accepts Iran’s conditions.
Other statements by the IRGC representative:
The Strait of Hormuz is under Iran’s control, and there are no enemy warships in the Persian Gulf.
All enemy warships are at least 400 kilometers from the Strait of Hormuz. No vessel can pass through the waterway without Iran’s permission.
During negotiations with Oman, an agreement was reached on sharing revenue from maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
If the US returns to the agreement, the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened under mutually agreed terms. Therefore, the US must accept Iran’s conditions.
On February 28, the US (along with Israel) began striking targets in Iran, to which Iranians retaliated with strikes of their own. In mid-June, both countries signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at a cessation of hostilities, but shortly afterward, they exchanged strikes again. The conflict remains unresolved with no active hostilities. However, the US has chosen to increase its economic pressure against the Islamic Republic.
