India and China will advance discussions on an “early and substantial harvest” border delimitation pact in coming weeks, with the first task for both sides being to agree upon respective ‘terms of reference’, India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced in a statement on Wednesday evening.Further, Doval & Wang Yi agreed that any situation or outstanding issues along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) would be addressed promptly through military and diplomatic channels, including the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India–China Border Affairs (WMCC), local commander‑level meeting as well as other mechanisms to avoid misunderstanding and miscalculation along the LAC.The two sides discussed ways to improve understanding of LAC in appropriate areas for better border management, MEA said.Noting the progress on trans-border cooperation, India appreciated Chinese efforts to increase the number of batches for the official Kailash-Manasarovar Yatra (KMY). Both sides appreciated the re-opening of overland trade through three points.Overall, Doval & Wang Yi underlined their commitments to advancing negotiations on a framework for the settlement of the boundary question based on the “Agreement on Political Parameters and Guiding Principles for Settlement of the India-China Boundary Question” signed in 2005 and the consensus reached in subsequent SR Talks in pursuit of a “fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution,” the Indian statement said.The Asian neighbours have reaffirmed their commitment to maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas and create an "atmosphere for healthy and steady development of bilateral relations," it said.Doval’s two-day visit to Beijing this week came ahead of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi on 12-13 September. During the visit, the Indian NSA discussed the border management issue, economic, political and multilateral matters with Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng in a separate meeting.India and China are trying to fully enforce a military disengagement pact announced in October 2024, which marked the end of a four-year old dispute in eastern Ladakh.

India and China have agreed to eight points of outcome and consensus at the 25th Special Representative (SR)-level talks co-led by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on Tuesday.
India and China will advance discussions on an “early and substantial harvest” border delimitation pact in coming weeks, with the first task for both sides being to agree upon respective ‘terms of reference’, India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced in a statement on Wednesday evening.
Militaries from both sides would set-up new hotlines in the Eastern and Middle Sectors, which includes the state of Arunachal Pradesh, another major outcome from the SR talks.
New Delhi and Beijing have also agreed to set-up two new border meeting points for holding General Level Mechanism/ Senior Highest Military Commander meeting (SHMC) to improve border management, the Indian foreign ministry said

Additionally, Delhi and Beijing have agreed to hold the next meeting of the India-China Expert-Level Mechanism on Trans-border Rivers in September and maintain communication on issues including hydrological data sharing, and renewal of the relevant MoUs.

"The two sides agreed to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in border trade, pilgrimage and other areas, with the view to work together to create an atmosphere featuring dialogue, peace, consultation and cooperation in the border areas," MEA said.
