Iran Does Not Seek War, But Will Respond to Any Aggression: Pezeshkian
14:52 31.08.2026 (Updated: 14:53 31.08.2026) Iran does not seek war but will respond to any aggressive actions against it, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Monday following US strikes on Iran's Larak Island.
The Fars news agency reported earlier that several explosions were heard on the Iranian island of Larak in the Strait of Hormuz. Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported, citing an unnamed US official, that the US had launched a strike, presumably on Iranian missile launchers on Larak.
Subsequently, Press TV reported that Iran had fired missiles at US vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as at US bases in West Asia. US Central Command claimed that it struck Iran to prevent its forces from mining the Strait of Hormuz.
"We do not seek war, and this is a clear message we have conveyed to the entire world, but in the event of any aggression [against Iran], we will never remain passive and will give a decisive response to the aggressors," Pezeshkian said ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek.
The Iranian president also added that the unstable situation in the Middle East is not in anyone's interests and will become a challenge to everyone. In this regard, he proposed joint efforts to ensure security and development in the region, his press service said.
Pezeshkian has arrived in Bishkek, where, in addition to participating in the summit, he will hold a series of bilateral meetings with leaders of participating countries, including Russian President Vladimir Putin.
