Two-Thirds of French Give Macron’s Economic Performance Negative Rating: Study

Two-thirds of French citizens rate the results of President Emmanuel Macron's work in the economic sphere negatively, according to a study by the CSA company for the CNews television channel, the Europe 1 radio station and the Journal du Dimanche newspaper published on Friday.
The study was conducted while France's national debt stands at about 3.566 trillion euros (around $4 trillion), equivalent to more than 117% of the country's GDP, the CNews television channel reported.
According to the study results, 66% of respondents rated Macron's work in the economy negatively, while 28% of respondents said they assess the head of state's results in this area as average. Only 5% of study participants rated Macron's work positively.
Both men (68%) and women (65%) spoke negatively about Macron's work in the economic sphere. The study found that people aged 65 and over were the most negative about the results of Macron's economic policy (74%). According to the study results, the younger the group of respondents, the less negatively it views the results of Macron's economic policy: among people aged 50-64, 73% of respondents view them negatively, in the 35-to-49 group, 65%; and among those aged 25 to 34, 54%. Young people aged 18 to 24 were the least negative about the results of Macron's work in the economy (49%).
The study also found that people's opinions regarding the results of Macron's work in the economy differ according to their political preferences. Thus, among supporters of left-wing parties, 63% rated the president's work negatively, 29% called it average, and only 7% of respondents rated it positively.
Among right-wing voters, the assessment of the president's work in this area is more negative - among supporters of the National Rally party, whose faction in parliament is headed by Marine Le Pen, as well as the Reconquete party, 91% of respondents rated Macron's work negatively, 8% as average, and only 1% of poll participants consider the results of the head of state's activity positive.
Supporters of the presidential majority are less categorical regarding the results of the country's president's work in the economic sphere - 58% of respondents consider them average, 25% negative, and 17% positive.
The study was conducted from September 8-9 among 1,012 adult French citizens via an online questionnaire. The margin of error was not provided.
