The diplomats met on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Thursday.The Iranian foreign minister said the United States was responsible for the current deadlock. He said that Iran was determined to defend its national security and prevent the US from using the strait to threaten Iran.The Iranian diplomat thanked Russia for its responsible position on unilateral US actions and the exploitation of international organizations to pressure Iran. The ministers also discussed bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic, transport and energy spheres.The Iranian Foreign Ministry said it was negotiating a temporary shipping corridor and joint demining efforts in the Strait of Hormuz with Oman after the US war on Iran brought shipping through the key route for oil and gas trade to a near standstill.

Araghchi Briefs Lavrov on Iran-Oman Talks Over Hormuz Shipping: Iranian Foreign Ministry
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi briefed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the progress in negotiations with Oman on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
"FM Araghchi briefed his Russian counterpart on the latest Iran-Oman talks on establishing a safe maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as ongoing mediation efforts to communicate the conditions necessary for a return to diplomacy," the statement read.
