India has taken a significant step towards strengthening the security of military communications, with DRDO successfully testing an indigenous quantum key distribution system designed to secure real-time telemetry during artillery and armoured weapon trials. The QKD system uses quantum principles to distribute cryptographic keys and signals, and can detect attempts to intercept the key exchange, offering a high level of security for sensitive defence communications.Developed under DRDO’s Microelectronic Devices, Computational Systems & Cyber Security (MCC) cluster in partnership with Bengaluru-based Taqbit Labs, the system offers unconditional security with built-in eavesdropping detection. Its successful integration into a live operational environment lays the groundwork for larger, multi-hop quantum networks capable of safeguarding military communications against emerging cyber threats, including those posed by future quantum computers.

DRDO Successfully Tests Quantum Key Distribution System to Secure Military Communications
India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Wednesday successfully tested an indigenous Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) system on a live network at the Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE) in Chandipur district, Odisha.
India has taken a significant step towards strengthening the security of military communications, with DRDO successfully testing an indigenous quantum key distribution system designed to secure real-time telemetry during artillery and armoured weapon trials.
The
QKD system uses quantum principles to distribute cryptographic keys and signals, and can detect attempts to intercept the key exchange, offering a high level of security for sensitive defence communications.
Developed under DRDO’s Microelectronic Devices, Computational Systems & Cyber Security (MCC) cluster in partnership with Bengaluru-based Taqbit Labs, the system offers unconditional security with built-in eavesdropping detection.
Its successful integration into a live operational environment lays the groundwork for larger, multi-hop
quantum networks capable of safeguarding military communications against emerging cyber threats, including those posed by future quantum computers.
