The plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is “on the table”; If the US meets Iran’s conditions, the strait will be reopened on the sixth day, with negotiations set to begin on the seventh, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.
"In our view, the seven-day plan is on the table, and if there is honesty from the US side, which is not being observed, the (further) path is known: if they fulfill the conditions, the strait will be opened on the sixth day, and on the seventh day negotiations will begin," the official Telegram channel of the minister quoted Araghchi as saying.
Earlier, in September, Araghchi clarified that Tehran had conveyed a seven-day plan to open the Strait of Hormuz to the US through intermediaries. US President Donald Trump said he rejected the Iranian proposal.
The US and Israel began striking targets in Iran on February 28, to which the Iranian side responded with its own strikes. In mid-June, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum on ending hostilities, but later exchanged strikes again. The conflict currently remains unresolved.
Due to the Iran-US conflict, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has virtually come to a halt. This is a key route for supplying oil, petroleum products, and liquefied natural gas to the global market. As a result, fuel prices have risen in most countries.
