Rosatom Automated Control Systems has completed delivery of the computerised subsystems of the Engineered Safety Features Actuation System (ESFAS CS) for Kudankulam Units 3 and 4, the Russian state nuclear corporation said in a statement. The delivery comprises around 300 pieces of equipment, with four independent sets allocated to each unit’s VVER-1000 reactor.Atomstroyexport, another Russian nuclear engineering company, serves as the project’s general designer and equipment supplier. The system continuously monitors reactor conditions, and if abnormal conditions arise, it automatically activates protective measures, including controlled cooldown of the reactor to bring it to a safe state. The design builds on the experience gained from the successful operation of Units 1 and 2, utilising non-programmable modules to improve resistance to common-cause failures.Installation at the plant will be followed by offline and integrated pre-commissioning tests.Kudankulam is planned to house six VVER-1000 reactors with a combined capacity of 6,000 MW. Units 1 and 2 are operational, while Units 3 and 4 remain under construction.

Russia Completes Delivery of Reactor Safety Systems for India's Kudankulam Nuclear Plant Unit 3 & 4
Russia’s state nuclear corporation, Rosatom, has completed the supply of advanced automated safety equipment for Units 3 and 4 of India’s Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu, marking another significant step in the construction of the VVER-1000 reactors.
Rosatom Automated Control Systems has completed delivery of the computerised subsystems of the Engineered Safety Features Actuation System (ESFAS CS) for Kudankulam Units 3 and 4, the Russian state nuclear corporation said in a statement.
The delivery comprises around 300 pieces of equipment, with four independent sets allocated to each unit’s VVER-1000 reactor.
Atomstroyexport, another Russian nuclear engineering company, serves as the project’s general designer and equipment supplier.
The system continuously monitors reactor conditions, and if abnormal conditions arise, it automatically activates protective measures, including controlled cooldown of the reactor to bring it to a safe state.
The design builds on the experience gained from the successful operation of Units 1 and 2, utilising non-programmable modules to improve resistance to common-cause failures.
Installation at the plant will be followed by offline and integrated pre-commissioning tests.
Kudankulam is planned to house six VVER-1000 reactors with a combined capacity of 6,000 MW. Units 1 and 2 are operational, while Units 3 and 4 remain under construction.
