Russia is ready to work with European companies in freight transportation along the Northern Sea Route, if they intend to cooperate, Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev said on Friday.
Russia will continue to increase the competitiveness and attractiveness of the Northern Sea Route as an international trade route, Likhachev told reporters.
"And, of course, we are ready to work with European companies in this regard. But, of course, if they see this as cooperation and development, rather than confrontation," Likhachev said.
Europe is unlikely to have the same icebreaker fleet as large as Russia's current one in the coming decades, he stressed.
"Only today does Russia have an icebreaker fleet capable of safely transporting cargo along the Northern Sea Route. And it is unlikely that such a fleet will appear in Europe or European countries in the coming decades," Likhachev told reporters.
