The Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday shot dead an alleged Pakistani intruder who was attempting to cross to the Indian side from the international border in the Samba district of the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
Confirming the development, a BSF spokesperson said that the incident occurred at night, around 2:50 am, near the Mangu Chak border outpost (BoP) which is surrounded by a dense jungle in the Samba region.
"In the early hours today, alert BSF troops noticed suspicious movement of a person, who crossed the IB from Pakistan's side, in Samba area," the BSF official said.
Alert BSF troops warned him from moving toward the border fence. But the intruder didn't heed their warnings. Eventually, the paramilitary force's personnel shot him dead, the spokesperson added.
Once the intruder was neutralized, the BSF began a search and combing operation to clear the area of more such suspects who could pose a security threat to the country.
This was not the first attempt by suspected Pakistan-based militants to enter India this week.
On Wednesday, the Indian Army arrested three suspected infiltrators along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Indian-administered Kashmir.
Once the intruder was neutralized, the BSF began a search and combing operation to clear the area of more such suspects who could pose a security threat to the country.
This was not the first attempt by suspected Pakistan-based militants to enter India this week.

LoC is the de-facto border between India and Pakistan in the Kashmir region.
As per an Indian Army spokesperson, the three infiltrators were carrying a huge consignment of weapons, including automatic rifles and illegal drugs with them when they were apprehended in the Poonch sector.
