Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi will be attending the mega opposition meet on 23 June, the Indian opposition party's General Secretary K.C. Venugopal said on Friday.
The meeting has been called by Bihar State Chief Nitish Kumar, who is also the chief of Janata Dal-United (JD-U), with an aim to unite India's opposition against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Parliamentary polls.
Venugopal confirmed the attendance of Kharge and Gandhi while talking to the media as he said that it is high time to have unity between the opposition parties “to fight against these forces who are ruining the country.”
Apart from Gandhi and Kharge, the other prominent opposition leaders who have given their confirmation to attend the meeting include Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, Jharkhand State Chief Hemant Soren, Uddhav Thackeray, Tamil Nadu State Chief MK Stalin, Delhi State Chief Arvind Kejriwal, Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D. Raja, Sitaram Yechury and Dipankar Bhattacharya.
On Thursday, Bihar Deputy State Chief Tejashwi Yadav while talking to the media said that “almost 15 parties will be attending the meet...from every party, the main leader is coming, not just a representative.”
He also informed the media that Telangana State Chief K. Chandrashekar Rao’s presence is yet not confirmed as he was not able to talk to him.
