With G-20 leaders arriving to attend the first day of the summit in New Delhi, alarm bells went off Saturday morning in the security establishment, when a private cab driver who was part of US President Joe Biden's motorcade made way for his regular customers, made a drop-off at another hotel.
US President Joe Biden is staying at New Delhi's ITC Maurya.
The driver told security agencies that he decided to drop off his regular clients since he found that Biden still had an hour left before going on his trip, thus, he would be able to easily drop off his customer.
“He was stopped after his car had stickers showing that he’s part of Biden’s motorcade and was supposed to be at ITC Maurya. But, upon receiving a call from his regular customer who asked him to drop [him off] at the Taj Mansingh hotel around 8am in the morning, he agreed,” the report revealed. Biden was supposed to leave his hotel around 9:30 am.
The driver said that he was unaware of the protocol indicating that he could not leave Biden's hotel or undertake any other duty.
The intelligence agency questioned the driver and the businessman, and they were subsequently released. The driver was then removed from Biden’s motorcade.
