The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the key opposition party in India's Andhra Pradesh, has been pushing for a statewide shutdown on Monday to protest the arrest of its leader and former state chief Chandrababu Naidu.
Meanwhile, another regional party, the Jana Sena Party, has also thrown its support behind the Bandh's shutdown appeal.
Why Was Chandrababu Naidu Arrested?
Just months before the state's elections, Naidu was arrested over sums of money amounting to INR 3.71 billion ($44.7 million) in the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation corruption case.
The money meant to upskill or train unemployed youth in the state was allegedly moved to various shell companies. The Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation was set up in 2016.
Naidu was sent into judicial custody until September 23.
