Twitter, now rebranded as X, was flooded with memes after Iran carried out airstrikes on two strongholds of Pakistani terrorist group Jaish al-Adl on Tuesday night.
Interestingly, the strikes occurred at a time when regular negotiations between representatives of the departments of industry and trade of the two countries were taking place in the Iranian port city of Chabahar.
In addition, two Pakistani warships arrived in Iran's Bandar Abbas on January 13. The countries had planned joint naval exercises in the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
What's more, Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar was holding talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian at the same time when military action was conducted by Tehran, drawing sarcastic comments on the relationship between the two countries.
Since then, Pakistan has retaliated with punitive measures - expelling the Iranian ambassador and recalling its envoy from Tehran besides warning the Islamic Republic of severe consequences.
"This illegal act is completely unacceptable and has no justification whatsoever. Pakistan reserves the right to respond to this illegal act. The responsibility for the consequences will lie squarely with Iran," the country's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
