An Indian-linked oil tanker has been attacked 60 nautical miles off Yemen's coast, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) centre said on Friday.
"UKMTO has received a report of an incident that occurred 60 nautical miles southwest of Aden. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Vessels are advised to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO," the UKMTO said in a statement.
The UKMTO added that both the ship and the crew were safe.
The British organisation also revealed that missiles were sighted by the crew while an explosion was heard approximately four miles away from the vessel.
Yemen's National Salvation Government, led by the Ansar Allah movement, declared a blockade of Israeli-owned and -bound shipping through the Red Sea after Israel launched its military operation in the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in more than 25,000 civilian deaths so far.
The Houthis have attacked ships owned by the firms in the Jewish state in demand of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the resumption of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territory.
The Yemeni attacks have included civilian naval vessels transporting cargo to India. The US and UK have responded by sending warships and aircraft to the region to launch air and cruise missile attacks on Yemeni territory.
