Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar convened with Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing on Friday, wherein Zhang emphasized Beijing's commitment to aiding Pakistan in addressing its financial challenges.
This discussion materialised alongside the First Nuclear Energy Summit in Brussels, where both parties reaffirmed the significance of their enduring collaboration in civil nuclear technology.

Vice Premier Zhang and Foreign Minister Dar expressed gratitude for the enduring 'Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership,' spotlighting it as a model of steadfast friendship and cooperation.

Dar reaffirmed Pakistan's steadfast adherence to the One-China policy, stressing the unanimous consensus within Pakistan regarding its relationship with China.

He also reiterated Pakistan's robust dedication to advancing the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The Pakistani top diplomat conveyed China's willingness to enhance CPEC and deepen cooperation across various sectors, such as industry, mining, and information technology.

Meanwhile, a militant assault near the southwestern Pakistani port of Gwadar, and concerns over the security of China's Belt and Road projects in the nation have resurfaced, posing challenges for Islamabad's new government and casting doubt on its assurances to Beijing.

The attack, which occurred on Wednesday, targeted the Gwadar Port Authority complex situated approximately 7 kilometres i.e., 4.3 miles from Gwadar Port. This complex is operated by China Overseas Ports Holding as a key component of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Despite the assailants' attempt to detonate a car packed with explosives at the complex gate, the device only partially exploded. The attack resulted in the deaths of up to five security personnel and all eight attackers, according to officials quoted by the media.

The Majeed Brigade, a faction of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist organisation advocating for an independent state in the province of Balochistan, claimed responsibility for the blast.

The BLA labelled the attack as a cautionary message directed at foreign investors eyeing Gwadar, evidently alluding to Chinese involvement in operating the Gwadar port.

Lin Jian, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Thursday reiterated Beijing's solidarity with Pakistan. He stated to reporters, "We firmly support Pakistan's efforts to fight terrorism and defend national security and stability”.
