Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that 2024 Lok Sabha elections are between two camps – one which brings honesty and transparency while the other who are corrupt and dynasts.
“On one side, we are bringing honesty and transparency to the people. On the other, the corrupt and dynasts have ganged up. These corrupt people are abusing and threatening Modi," Modi stated, while addressing a poll rally in Rudrapur in Uttarakhand.
The Prime Minister also hit out at Congress parliamentarian Rahul Gandhi for his remarks that the country will be on fire if Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Modi said the “prince” of the Opposition party's “royal family” has declared that the country would be on fire if the BJP returned to power. "They ruled the country for 60 years, but after just 10 years out of power, they are talking about setting the country on fire,” the PM asserted.
Modi questioned whether this is truly the "language of democracy." He criticized the Congress party for having an "emergency mindset" and stated that they no longer believe in democracy. He suggested that the Congress party is busy inciting people against the government's mandate.
The PM even said that “action against every corrupt person will continue” as he doesn’t fear threats and abuses.
“At the beginning of our third term, there will be a bigger attack on corruption. I guarantee that," he vowed.
Modi's remarks came a couple of days after the opposition bloc organized a mega rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi to protest the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal in a money laundering case related to Delhi's now-scrapped liquor policy.
During the demonstration, Gandhi accused the BJP and Prime Minister Modi of "fixing" the upcoming polls by arresting key opposition leaders.
“Without EVMs, match-fixing, social media, and pressuring the press, they cannot win more than 180 seats. If the BJP wins these fixed election and then changes the Constitution, the whole country will be on fire. Mark my words, this country won't survive,” Gandhi asserted.
The BJP went so far as to write a letter to the Election Commission of India urging them to take action against Gandhi for his remarks.
