PM Sharif has officially submitted his resignation to Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N supremo.
After Sharif's resignation, the PML - N has decided to call a general council meeting in Lahore on 28 May to elect a new president.
After being convicted in 2018, the former prime minister was prohibited from holding any public office.
However, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) acquitted him in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia cases on November 29 and December 12, respectively.
After being acquitted, the former Prime Minister ran in the 2024 General Elections and was elected as the representative for NA-130 Lahore.
In March this year, Sharif was elected as Pakistan's Prime Minister for the second time to lead a coalition government of Pakistan Muslim League (N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party.
