Shops, cafes, and offices are closed, with many hotel bookings cancelled. Authorities have arranged additional flights and trains to help tourists leave, as the attack has heavily impacted the local tourism sector.
Indian security forces are searching for the militants behind the attack, offering a reward of 2 million rupees for information leading to their capture. The Ministry of External Affairs has linked the attack to cross-border elements, prompting India to expel Pakistani military advisers, close a key border checkpoint, suspend the Indus Water Treaty, and cancel certain Pakistani visas.
The attack, carried out by terrorists in military-style clothing, killed 26 people, with many others injured. The attackers, believed to be from the Resistance Front (a faction of Lashkar-e-Taiba*), escaped.
