'Most Evil Group': US Under Fire as New Defence Pact Angers Indians

Relations between India and the US are under unprecedented strain, as Washington piles pressure on New Delhi to sever its ties with long-time strategic partner Russia.

Indians have dubbed the US "most evil group", "an unreliable partner" and a "colossal mistake" on social media after the signing of a 10-year defence framework between the two countries.
The bilateral treaty was announced by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and US Secretary of War Peter Hegseth.

"Had a fruitful meeting with my US counterpart Peter Hegseth in Kuala Lumpur. We signed the 10 years 'Framework for the US-India Major Defence Partnership'," Singh posted on X. "This will usher in a new era in our already strong defence partnership"

But that did not go down well with Indian social media users, who charged Washington with waging an economic war on their country while US President Donald Trump dismissed its economy as "dead".
The US has levied 25 punitive tariffs on India for its energy trade with Russia, in addition to 25% duties announced earlier on Indian exports to the US. Those measures are hurting key Indian sectors like textiles and gemstones.

"Is there any partnership left?" one X user asked. "Irrespective of any such signed documents, believe we should forget 'Strategic', after what the POTUS has stated publicly on India and its economy."
