India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in paying rich tributes to the martyrs on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of 2019 Pulwama terror attack.
Remembering those who were murdered in the suicide bombing, Modi said in a tweet that their supreme sacrifice will never be forgotten and their courage serves as a motivation to build a strong and developed India.
Federal Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute to the martyrs as he said in a tweet that their valor and indomitable courage will always remain an inspiration in the fight against terrorism.
Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh added his voice to the chorus of adulation.
“I pay my tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their life in the terrorist attack in Pulwama in the year 2019. This country salutes the courage and sacrifice of these soldiers who got Veergati [heroic martyrdom]. The entire nation stands firmly with their families,” Singh wrote on Twitter.
India's opposition joined in with Congress parliamentarian Rahul Gandhi posting a picture of him laying floral tributes while he was in Jammu and Kashmir during this 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' [Unite India March] walk.
A convoy of more than 2,500 Indian security personnel was attacked on 14 February 2019 as it was heading from Jammu to Srinagar.
A suicide bomber rammed an IED-laden vehicle into the security convoy carrying the men on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway in the Pulwama district of the former state, now a Union Territory.
It was declared the deadliest terror attack on India's security personnel in Kashmir since 1989.
Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)*, a terrorist outfit based in Pakistan, claimed the responsibility for the attack.
The attack made relations between India and Pakistan even tenser than they had been and In retaliation, New Delhi launched a counter-terror airstrike targeting JeM training camps in Pakistan's Balakot area.
