India's security forces have repeatedly prevented numerous attempts to smuggle illegal arms and drugs, both via drones and individuals, from Pakistan into India.
The Border Security Force (BSF) of India has foiled another attempt by smugglers to drop drugs and weapons in India through the international border in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab, which borders Pakistan.

The incident took place in the wee hours of Saturday morning, when alert BSF troops noticed suspicious movement across the border fence that separates India and Pakistan near a village called Khasawali in Gurdaspur.

"In prompt action, the BSF personnel fired towards Pakistani smugglers beyond the border fence. However, the smugglers managed to run away taking advantage of the dense fog. The Pakistani smugglers also fired two bursts, but no one was hurt. The area was cordoned off and police and concerned sister agencies were informed," a statement from the BSF reads.

The subsequent search operation launched by the paramilitary force led to the recovery of 20 packets of heroin, one China-built and another Turkey-manufactured pistols and six magazines of bullets. The BSF also said that soldiers were still combing the area to find if the smugglers left another cache of arms somewhere else nearby.

This isn't the first time India's border guards have collected a consignment of weapons and narcotics from Punjab - last week, a Pakistani drone carrying arms and drugs was shot down in Ferozepur district, thwarting another smuggling attempt at the time.
