The Indian Army have canceled a planned reduction of their contingent in the northern union territory of Jammu and Kashmir due to the increased threat of terrorist attacks from outside, Pioneer newspaper reports, citing sources in the Indian Army's Northern Command.On Wednesday, Jammu and Kashmir authorities stepped up security measures in the city of Srinagar in connection with reports of terrorist plans to carry out armed attacks during the G-20 ministerial meeting on tourism there on May 22-24.India, which took over the G20 Presidency in December 2022, intends to hold more than 200 meetings in 55 different locations, including Jammu and Kashmir, as part of the activities of this group, to showcase the country's cultural heritage.Kashmir has been a point of contention between India and Pakistan since 1947, when India was divided into two states along religious lines. Today, India and Pakistan are divided by the Line of Control (LoC). India considers Kashmir an integral part of its territory, and has repeatedly blamed Pakistan for allegedly supporting cross-border terrorism in the region. This year alone, 17 people, including 10 military personnel, became victims of attacks by militants in Jammu and Kashmir.
