BSF Shoots Down Another Suspected Pakistani Drone in Punjab
India's northwestern state of Punjab has witnessed a significant spurt in suspected Pakistani drones attempting to enter Indian territory in the last few months.
Alert Border Security Force (BSF) soldiers disabled another suspected Pakistani drone near the international border in the Amritsar district of Punjab state, an official paramilitary force said on Saturday.
The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) was allegedly trying to transport narcotics to a village in Amritsar.
"On June 10, at around 4 am, BSF troops deployed at the border reported an Indian space violation by a drone coming from the Pakistan side. Troops also heard the sound of something having fallen in a farming field in depth area near the Rai village in Amritsar. As per the laid down drill, BSF troops immediately reacted, " the spokesperson of the BSF's Punjab Frontier said.
This is the second such incident near the Rai village area in Amritsar. Another drone was shot down by the BSF in the same region just the previous night. Subsequently, 5.5 kg of heroin was recovered from the drone's crash site.
The BSF has already detected multiple violations of Indian airspace by Pakistani drones in June, preventing the neighboring country's ulterior motives to dispatch weapons and illegal drugs that could be used for terrorist activities in India.
Besides its success in neutralizing many drones this month, the BSF has brought down six Pakistani drones during the last two weeks of May.
