NCP chief Sharad Pawar named his daughter Supriya Sule and veteran politician and close aide Praful Patel as the working presidents of the party on Saturday. His announcement came on the 24th anniversary of the organization's foundation. The move is being viewed as a major snub to Pawar's nephew Ajit Pawar, who served as Maharashtra's deputy state chief in the erstwhile government led by Uddhav Thackeray that collapsed in June last year.Ajit is widely considered Sharad's heir apparent in the NCP, but some have indicated that he has become a loose canon of late after reports emerged that he was cozying up to the BJP.Some media publications have even suggested that Ajit looked to split the NCP to form an alliance with the BJP with the help of party legislators willing to break from his uncle. However, Ajit termed the reports as false, adding that he would never ditch Sharad and the NCP. Even though he has stayed back in the NCP so far, his bonhomie with Devendra Fadnavis, the top BJP leader in Maharashtra has continued to swell speculation about his possible switch to the treasury benches.

19:43 10.06.2023 (Updated: 14:37 19.06.2023) The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is a major opposition party in Maharashtra state and a key ally of the Congress Party, the principal challenger to the federally-ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
NCP chief Sharad Pawar named his daughter Supriya Sule and veteran politician and close aide Praful Patel as the working presidents of the party on Saturday.
His announcement came on the 24th anniversary of the organization's foundation.
The move is being viewed as a major snub to Pawar's nephew Ajit Pawar, who served as Maharashtra's deputy state chief in the erstwhile government led by Uddhav Thackeray that collapsed in June last year.
Ajit is widely considered Sharad's heir apparent in the NCP, but some have indicated that he has become a loose canon of late after reports emerged that he was cozying up to the BJP.
Some media publications have even suggested that Ajit looked to split the NCP to form an alliance with the BJP with the help of party legislators willing to break from his uncle.
