The International Cricket Council (ICC), cricket's global governing body, fined Indian cricketer Shubman Gill on Monday for showing dissent against the umpire's decision to give him out in Team India's second innings in the WTC title clash against Australia that concluded this weekend.The development would cost Gill 15 percent of his match fee.The ICC's move came after Gill posted cryptic messages on social media, apparently taking digs at umpire Richard Kettleborough who ruled him out after looking at different angles through multiple cameras installed on the field.The controversy erupted when Gill, who was batting on 18 in India's second essay, was caught by Australia's Cameron Green in the gully area. However, the on-field umpires were unsure if the catch was clean, asking the third umpire to take a call.But the third umpire sent Gill back to the pavilion despite multiple angles showing the ball to have touched the ground.Gill's wicket tilted the balance of the contest in Australia's favor as the Kangaroos became the first team to win all four ICC trophies.Before their victory over India in the WTC final, the Australians had won the 50-over World Cup in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015, the T20 World Cup in 2021, and the Champions Trophy in 2006 and 2009.In the post-match presentation ceremony, even Indian captain Rohit Sharma slammed the umpires over the dubious decision regarding Gill."I just felt disappointed with - not enough. I mean, the third umpire should have seen a little more replays, a little more of, you know, how the catch has been held. It's not about whether it was given out or not out, you need to have proper and clear information about anything," Rohit Sharma said after India's defeat.

The International Cricket Council (ICC), cricket's global governing body, fined Indian cricketer Shubman Gill on Monday for showing dissent against the umpire's decision to give him out in Team India's second innings in the WTC title clash against Australia that concluded this weekend.
"India's Shubman Gill will face a sanction for appearing to criticise the decision to give him out on the fourth day of the Test, breaching article 2.7 which relates to public criticism or inappropriate comment in relation to an incident occurring in
an international match. The young opener was fined a further 15 percent of his match fee," the ICC's statement read.
The development would cost Gill 15 percent of his match fee.
