A Trinamool Congress (TMC) Party worker was shot dead, and four others were injured on Tuesday after an alleged clash in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district.The clash occurred between TMC and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers.As per local media reports, Gitaldaha is one of the most interior places in the Cooch Behar district and is very close to the International Border. The only mode of communication is via boat.Violence around Elections in West BengalFor the past 20 years, West Bengal has witnessed violence regularly around elections. Last year in May, after the state assembly election results were declared, at least a dozen people died, and several others were injured in clashes that erupted across the state after the elections.Even this time, so far, a total of 11 people have died in the state ever since the nomination process for the three-tier panchayat polls (village council elections) began on June 9. On Sunday, violence erupted in the Purulia district between workers of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and TMC party.

The village council election in India's West Bengal is scheduled to be held on July 8, and the result will be announced on July 11.
A Trinamool Congress (TMC) Party worker was shot dead, and four others were injured on Tuesday after an alleged clash in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district.
The clash occurred between TMC and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers.
A senior police officer from Cooch Behar, Sumit Kumar, said the "clash broke out between two groups in the Gitaldaha area this morning, in which five people received bullet injuries. After admitting them to the hospital, Babu Hoque was declared dead. Now, the police are handling the situation and are present on the spot."
As per local media reports, Gitaldaha is one of the most interior places in the
Cooch Behar district and is very close to the International Border. The only mode of communication is via boat.
