The Forest Department of India's Tamil Nadu state has arrested a man for smuggling banned rare species of seahorses worth millions of rupees in Ramanathapuram district. The accused, identified as Naganathan (57), was caught with a bag full of seahorses during patrolling in the Suriyakudi area. A total of 90 seahorses and a vehicle were recovered by police. The forest officer revealed that the accused had regularly smuggled seahorses. According to the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, the trading or possession of seahorses is considered illegal.The accused has been taken to the range office for further investigation.
