Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not going to take over most jobs completely, but will instead automate some of their duties, yet clerical jobs are bound to be the hardest hit, a United Nations study revealed. The UN, in a warning, said that AI could potentially hit female employment harder, given women’s over-representation in this sector, especially in wealthier countries. “Most jobs and industries are only partially exposed to automation and are thus more likely to be complemented rather than substituted by AI,” the study stressed. However, the UN agency, the International Labour Organisation, warned that the impact of generative AI on affected workers could still be “brutal”.

Generative AI means technology that can produce various types of content. Since the emergence of chatbot AI applications, it has sparked gears over job destruction.
“Generative AI probably will not take over most people’s jobs entirely but will instead automate a portion of their duties, freeing them up to do other tasks, a UN study said.
“Most jobs and industries are only partially exposed to automation and are thus more likely to be complemented rather than substituted by AI,” the study stressed.
However, the UN agency, the International Labour Organisation, warned that the impact of generative AI on affected workers could still be “brutal”.
“Therefore, for policymakers, our study should not read as a calming voice, but rather as a call for harnessing policy to address the technological changes that are upon us,” the UN in its study added.
