In September 2021, Australia, the US, and the UK announced the AUKUS strategic partnership based on a deal to supply nuclear submarines to Australia.Although AUKUS is not officially directed against any countries, the US and their allies are clearly seeking to contain China's rising influence with the bloc, which could risk a major war. In particular, Australia, as part of the partnership, has announced its intention to acquire its own missile weapons and engage in joint development of supersonic missiles with partners.Some experts believe the next step for the bloc will be to add other US allies: South Korea and Japan, which "deepened their ties" at the recent Camp David summit.Check out our infographics for more details about the bloc:
