Brazilian Army Chief Witnesses Indian Military Drills at Pakistan Border
13:08 31.08.2023 (Updated: 14:23 31.08.2023) The Brazilian Army chief is on a six-day visit to India till 2 September to bolster defence cooperation between the BRICS partners.
General Tomas Miguel Mine Ribeiro Paiva, Commander of Brazilian Army, witnessed Indian military manoeuvres and firing drills in the western state of Rajasthan near the Pakistan border, an Indian Army statement said on Thursday evening.
The “integrated capacity demonstrations” by the Indian Army were conducted at the Pokhara firing range in Jaisalmer, the desert district bordering Pakistan.
"General Paiva appreciated the precise operational manoeuvres and accurate firing conducted by a variety of indigenous weapon systems,” the Army statement said.
The Indian defense ministry has said that the
firing drills demonstrated the “capabilities of weapon systems” of the Indian Army.
Paiva Holds Talks With Indian Military Leadership
The Brazilian Army commander held talks with Indian Army chief General Manoj Pande, the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan and Defense Secretary Giridhar Aramane in New Delhi this week, according to an official statement.
“These discussions underscored the shared goals of enhancing defence cooperation and collaboration between the two nations,” the Indian defense ministry said.
The two military leaderships also held “constructive discussions” on contemporary regional and global issues, it said.
“This visit not only strengthens military cooperation but also reinforces the commitment of both nations to collaborative security efforts, global peace and prosperity,” New Delhi has said.
The Indian side has said that ongoing visit marks a “significant milestone in the longstanding relationship” between the two militaries.
