More G-20 Nations Decline to Endorse Western Narrative on Ukraine Conflict: Report
Since Moscow launched its special military operation in Ukraine last February, many countries, including India have taken an independent stance over the issue.
More countries have joined a band of G-20 nations that no longer support the Western perspective on the ongoing Ukraine conflict, a European newspaper reported on Monday.
The findings come ahead of the G-20 summit in New Delhi where leaders of the world's 20 largest economies will deliberate on
global pressing issues this weekend.
According to the publication, the final declaration set to be issued after the leaders' meeting in the Indian capital was to feature text condemning Russia's special military operation in Ukraine, but it is no longer expected.
The latest G-20 summit held in Indonesia's Bali "criticized Russia's actions in Ukraine" in the leaders' communique released after the summit.
The report quoting two European officials directly associated with the summit in New Delhi added that disagreements over the Ukraine conflict have escalated since the Bali declaration.
"A number of developing country members have retreated
from language agreed in Bali… It will be a battle [to reach consensus]," one of the European officials was quoted as saying by the media outlet.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the summit of the leaders of G-20 nations in Delhi later this week.
