13:20 01.10.2023 (Updated: 14:13 01.10.2023) Turkiye’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has said that two police officers have sustained injuries during the terrorist attack at the government building.
A suicide bomber blew himself up at the Turkiye’s General Directorate of Security in Ankara on Sunday morning, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has said.
Taking to social media platform X, the interior minister said that the attempted terrorist attack took place at 9:30 AM local time and involved two terrorists. The other attack has been “neutralized”, he said.
The attackers came to the front entrance gate of the building using a light commercial vehicle, the minister stated.
“Our struggle will continue till the last terrorist is neutralized,” Yerlikaya remarked.
Turkish media reported that the attack took place ahead of the convening of the Parliament after the summer recess.
Gunshots were reportedly heard near the site of the attack, which is located near the Parliament building.
According to reports, the police found more boxes or bags carrying explosives in the vehicle used by the terrorists.
An eyewitness reported having heard sounds of controlled explosions by the police bomb squad.
