Indian Billionaires 'Closely Monitor' Israel-Hamas War to Ensure Employees Safety
18:50 09.10.2023 (Updated: 13:39 10.10.2023) There are fears that the Hamas-Israel conflict, originally confined to the southern border near Gaza, could spread to other parts of the country.
Indian billionaire conglomerate Adani Enterprises has said that it has taken measures to ensure “safety of our employees” at the Haifa Port, located along Israel’s northern coast.
“We are closely monitoring the action on ground which is concentrated in South Israel, whereas Haifa port is situated in the North,” a spokesperson for Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), the conglomerate’s ports subsidiary, said in a statement on Monday.
However, soon after the company’s message, IDF sounded air raid warning sirens in the northern part of Israel.
APSEZ said that it remained “fully alert” and was prepared with a “business continuity plan” to respond to any eventuality in case the ongoing hostilities between Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hamas spread to the norther parts of the country.
APSEZ
acquired the port of Haifa with its local partner Godot Group in a deal valued at $1.15 billion in January this year.
Haifa is the third foreign port to be acquired and run by APSEZ, which is India’s biggest port operator.
