There are fears that the Hamas-Israel conflict, originally confined to the southern border near Gaza, could spread to other parts of the country.
Indian billionaire conglomerate Adani Enterprises has said that it has taken measures to ensure “safety of our employees” at the Haifa Port, located along Israel’s northern coast.
“We are closely monitoring the action on ground which is concentrated in South Israel, whereas Haifa port is situated in the North,” a spokesperson for Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), the conglomerate’s ports subsidiary, said in a statement on Monday.
However, soon after the company’s message, IDF sounded air raid warning sirens in the northern part of Israel.
APSEZ said that it remained “fully alert” and was prepared with a “business continuity plan” to respond to any eventuality in case the ongoing hostilities between Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hamas spread to the norther parts of the country.
APSEZ acquired the port of Haifa with its local partner Godot Group in a deal valued at $1.15 billion in January this year.
Haifa is the third foreign port to be acquired and run by APSEZ, which is India’s biggest port operator.

Israel Drafts 300,000 Reservists

Meanwhile, Israel’s chief military spokesperson Rear-Admiral Daniel Hagari has told journalists that the IDF is mobilizing around 300,000 reservists in response to the multi-front assault by Hamas and allied Palestinian groups.
IDF said earlier in the day that around 100,000 IDF troops are already massed at the southern border with Gaza Strip, hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet declared a ‘war’ in response to the unprecedented attack by Hamas.
Around 700 Israelis, military and civilians included, were killed and over 2,200 injured till Sunday, after Hamas launched an unprecedented assault comprising rockets and sending its fighters to Israel from the Gaza Strip.
The IDF carried out airstrikes at it what it claimed were locations of Hamas commanders and operatives in Gaza in the intervening nights of Sunday and Monday.
However, Palestinian authorities have said that IDF strikes hit residential and commercial buildings and left 370 Palestinian citizens dead.
