As the US continues to supply weapons to Israel instead of calling for a peaceful solution, Pakistani experts and residents are expressing support for Palestine.
Destruction in Gaza, home to over 2.3 million Palestinians, has left at least 900 civilians dead. A large number of high-rise residential buildings have been reduced to rubble by Israeli rockets, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

A ministry statement said the Israeli attacks killed 260 children and 200 women, while injuring 4,500 others.
The recent escalation occurred after militants from Hamas, which governs Gaza, launched a military operation in Israeli towns and settlements located along the separation fence with Gaza on Saturday morning. The attacks by Hamas militants killed over 700 Israelis, while 1,100 were wounded, according to the Israeli Health Ministry.
In response, Tel Aviv launched deadly air strikes on Gaza, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warning of a “long and difficult war”.

World Reacts to Escalation

Leading world figures such as Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the violence against Israeli and Palestinian civilians, including hostage-taking, is unacceptable. He asked for an immediate de-escalation of the crisis.
On Monday night, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called on all people of the world, whether Christian, Muslim, or Jewish, to come together and denounce the "genocide" that is occurring in Gaza in the wake of Hamas' attack.
Maduro said that Gaza is home to millions of people who for decades have been living under siege and have suffered at the hands of Israeli lawmakers. The Venezuelan president's remarks were made in reference to his own country's predicament of being sanctioned by the US, which he described as a "blockade".

Pakistan’s caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani also expressed “deep concern” over the escalating hostilities in the Middle East, calling on Israel to immediately cease its operation in Gaza.
While some world leaders called for an immediate ceasefire and peace negotiations, others, like US President Joe Biden, openly expressed support for Israel without even mentioning Gaza once during his live address on Tuesday night. The support is not just verbal, as the US is also sending military support to Israel.
According to the latest reports, US will send multiple military ships and aircraft closer to Israel, including the USS Gerald Ford Carrier Strike Group with its accompanying warships: the USS Normandy, a guided missile cruiser armed with naval guns, and destroyers the USS Thomas Hudner, USS Ramage, USS Carney, and USS Roosevelt.

Hamas called the US announcement “aggression” against the Palestinians. It should be noted that the US contributes $3 billion a year in military aid to Israel.

Public Sympathy For Palestine

Sputnik India has spoken to several Pakistani political analysts and civilians to get an insight into the Pakistani population's opinion on the matter.

"Israel and Gaza are not two countries at war. In reality, Gaza is a territory [that has been] under siege for the past 16 years. Every aspect of life in Gaza is controlled by Israel. So in my opinion, [the] Palestinians didn't break through a border to enter Israel. They are actually trying to destroy a fence separating them from the rest of the world, they are trying to get out of the Israeli siege", former Defense Attache Khalid Mahmood told Sputnik India.

According to another former military chief and security expert, Hassan Zulfiqar, the Pakistani public's sympathy is with the Palestinian people.

"People are expressing sadness for what is now happening in Gaza, as this has been going on for many years. However, I haven't seen a strong reaction from the government. What can the Pakistani government or the international community do when the United States is sending a barrage of high-tech weapons and the western media is promoting the Israeli narrative?" Zulfiqar said.

United States Adds Fuel to Fire

Expressing a similar sentiment, political analyst Dr. Shahid Rashid said that the issue of Palestine abd Israel is decades old, but it seems like the international community has made no concrete effort to resolve it once and for all.

"Israel has now gotten an opportunity to wipe out Gaza and to wipe out [the] Palestinian population. What it is doing right now is unprecedented bombing of high-rise buildings that are coming down with hundreds of civilians - men, women and children trapped inside these buildings. The Western countries, especially the US, are adding fuel to [the] fire by sending more weapons to Israel instead of trying to de-escalate this dangerous situation", Dr. Rashid shared.

The political analyst also pointed out that the United Nations is staying quiet and not demanding that Israel work towards a peaceful resolution. He said the situation is extremely sad and that it is highly likely the Hamas fighters will be totally wiped out. Meanwhile, Gazan civilians will die in the thousands if Israel continues its rocket attacks.

A Pakistani lawyer based in Canada, who asked to remain anonymous, shared his sentiment on the Palestine-Israel conflict, saying that "oppression leads to violence".

"Condemnation of Hamas without condemnation of Israeli oppression [has] led to impunity for Israel to conduct genocide in the region. If the West wants peace that is lasting - they have to realise that it cannot occur without condemnation of Israeli action", the lawyer said.

Another Pakistani civilian, Naheed Shah, told Sputnik India that Hamas' attack was not unprovoked, as was retaliation for living under Israeli siege.

"I feel sad for innocent Israelis who were killed by the Hamas air strikes, but the narrative being pushed by Western media suggests that Hamas did it without any provocation and I think that is totally unfair and a false narrative. What Hamas did last Saturday was on a much smaller scale [compared] to what Israeli soldiers have been doing to civilians in Gaza for decades. What is happening now is a total violation of human rights and sheer hypocrisy. I hope someone calls for an immediate ceasefire", Shah said.
