With an eye on becoming a dominant force in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), the Indian Navy has been expanding its fleet of warships and submarines. Another vessel joined it this Friday.
The Indian Navy's combat capabilities got a major boost on Friday after the country's latest stealth warship, the Imphal, with advanced features was delivered by the state-run Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL).
The development was confirmed by India's Ministry of Defence (MoD).

"The ship boasts of a high indigenous content of approximately 75% that includes Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missiles, Brahmos Surface-to-Surface Missiles, Indigenous Torpedo Tube Launchers, Anti-Submarine Indigenous Rocket Launchers, and 76mm Super Rapid Gun Mount", the MoD said in a statement.

The Imphal guided-missile destroyer is the third Visakhapatnam-class stealth warship built under Project 15B of the Indian Navy.
Spanning 164 meters in length, the Imphal is one of the largest missile destroyers built in India.
Having a displacement of 7,400 tons, the Imphal is widely believed to be one of the most advanced warships of the Indian Navy.
The Imphal joins its predecessors the INS Visakhapatnam and INS Mormugao, which were inducted into service with the Indian Navy in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
The Project 15B class of destroyers of the Indian Navy has been built indigenously under the central government's "Make in India"' initiative.
