Amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, Israel has imposed a total blockade on the Gaza Strip. The blockade was later eased to allow trucks with humanitarian aid into the region.
Israel has entered the third stage of its war against Palestinian Hamas movement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday.
"We are in the midst of the war. We have set the clear goal of destroying Hamas's military and governing capabilities. We are doing this systematically. The first blocking stage is over. The 2nd stage, pounding them from the air is continuing all the time. The 3rd stage – the IDF has expanded its ground incursion inside the Gaza Strip. It is doing so in measured, very powerful, steps making methodical, step-by-step progress," Netanyahu was quoted as saying by his office.
On October 7, Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise large-scale rocket attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip and breached the border, killing and abducting people in neighboring Israeli communities. Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to more than 2 million people, cutting off supplies of water, food, and fuel. The blockade was later eased to allow trucks with humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. The escalation of the conflict has resulted in thousands of people killed and injured.

The number of people taken hostage by Hamas in the Gaza Strip has risen to 240, as the identification process continues, the chief spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Daniel Hagari, said on Tuesday.
On Monday, the IDF said 238 hostages were held in Gaza.
"So far, the families of 240 hostages have been notified. As I say this, the number has risen to 240, since as I have explained, identification is complex. Some of the hostages are not Israeli citizens, and the process is complex," Hagari said at a briefing.

Nearly 3,200 children have been killed in Gaza in just three weeks of conflict, a figure that surpasses the annual toll in all conflict zones since 2019, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East Philippe Lazzarini said on Monday.
“Nearly 3,200 children were killed in Gaza in just three weeks. This surpasses the number of children killed annually across the world's conflict zones since 2019,” Lazzarini told the Security Council members at the meeting on Palestine.
Large numbers of people have been killed while seeking refuge in places protected by international humanitarian law, he added.

Israel Calls on WHO, UNRWA to Condemn Hamas' Use of Shifa Hospital
International organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), Doctors Without Borders and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) should condemn the military use of Shifa Hospital in Gaza by Hamas, Israel Defense Forces spokesperson LTC Jonathan Conricus and the country's permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, Meirav Eilon Shahar, said on Monday.
"And I will just add that we have shared information and we do expect the international community and the international organizations, including WHO, but not only, actually to condemn Hamas for using these protected facilities for military use," Eilon Shahar told a briefing.
