Talismanic India batter Virat Kohli scripted history in the 2023 Cricket World Cup fixture against Sri Lanka in Mumbai as he broke Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing world record in ODIs on Thursday.
During his 88-run knock at the Wankhede Stadium, Kohli went past 1000 runs in the 50-over format in 2023. The Delhi-born cricketer needed 23 matches to

This made him the first batter to score 1000 runs in a calendar year on eight different occasions in ODIs.
Previously, Kohli completed 1000 runs in a year in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
Before India's No.3 batter, the record was held by Tendulkar, who had
made over 1000 runs in a calendar year seven times during his illustrious career.
The seven instances of the God of Cricket's thousand-plus runs in a calendar year in ODIs came in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2003, and 2007.
